Strength Given, Strength Gained: Every Child Matters

In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember that every child matters.
In this story, the black-capped chickadee and white-breasted nuthatch together symbolize resilience, generosity, and care within the community. The nuthatch represents persistence, responsibility, and quiet strength, tirelessly working to feed and protect its young even under harsh conditions. The chickadee symbolizes kindness, resourcefulness, and the impact of shared support. By stepping in to help the struggling nuthatches, the chickadee highlights how even small acts of generosity can amplify resilience and foster hope.
A Story of Resilience
One late spring, a heavy snowstorm swept across the forest, the cold had made food scarce.
In the hollow of an old oak, a pair of white-breasted nuthatches struggled to keep their nestlings fed.
A black-capped chickadee heard the loud cries of the chicks. Instead of keeping what it found, the chickadee began leaving food at the nuthatches’ nest. It lended its strength to the work of parents who were nearly worn down.
The snow melted, as spring always does, and the forest carried on. But the moment remained as a quiet lesson: resilience is not only about enduring the storm, but also about how we care for one another within it.
Sometimes, survival, and even hope, depends on the kindness of those willing to share their strength.
