Business Development Manager
Reports to: Director of Growth and Client Strategy
Roles & Responsibilities
- New Business Development
- Proactively identify and pursue opportunities with prospective clients to grow the agency’s portfolio.
- Generate and qualify leads through outbound and inbound calls, networking, and digital outreach, focusing on clients interested in marketing services.
- Develop and deliver tailored pitches and proposals that address client-specific needs.
- Represent the agency at marketing events, trade shows, and networking functions to increase visibility and expand the client base (out of city/province travel may be required).
- Consistently achieve or surpass monthly and quarterly sales targets, while tracking and reporting progress to Director of Growth and Client Strategy.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with potential clients, ensuring agreements are mutually beneficial and deals are closed efficiently.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in Salesforce, including leads, prospects, sales activities, and client communications.
- Foster and nurture relationships by providing ongoing support, addressing inquiries, and ensuring high client satisfaction to promote repeat business and referrals.
- Collaborate with internal teams (creative, project management, production) to clearly communicate client requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
- Prepare proposals in collaboration with creative and account teams.
- Prepare and deliver regular status reports and updates to the Director of Growth and Client Strategy.
- Industry Knowledge & Professional Development
- Stay current on industry trends and the agency’s evolving service offerings to effectively promote new solutions to clients.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and training sessions to continuously enhance professional skills and industry knowledge.
- Project Management (As Needed)
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (creative, production, digital) to ensure projects are executed smoothly and meet client expectations.
- Clearly communicate client feedback and project requirements to relevant teams.
- Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and approval processes throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, business, or a related field is an asset; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 2-3 years of experience in account management, business development, or client services within a marketing, advertising, or creative agency environment.
- Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding sales targets, with experience managing a book of business and growing client revenue.
- Strong understanding of marketing, branding, and digital communications, with the ability to translate client needs into effective proposals and scopes of work.
- Proven ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships, including handling day-to-day communication, problem-solving, and issue escalation.
- Experience preparing proposals, and status reports to senior decision-makers.
- Comfortable representing the agency at conferences, trade shows, and networking events; willingness and ability to travel out of province as needed.
- Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce or equivalent), Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset with experience working closely with creative, project management, and production teams to deliver high-quality work.
- Knowledge of or interest in Indigenous communities, economic development, and reconciliation-focused work is considered an asset.
