Memorial Register
Briefing
The National Centre on Truth and Reconciliation, hosted at the University of Manitoba, commissioned us to design the layout for the National Residential School Memorial Register, the collection of names of each child who died at residential school.
Approach
Given the very sombre and painful nature of the book’s contents, we felt the design and image choices needed to keep the focus on the subject matter, honouring and acknowledging the children who did not return home to their families.

Result
The first Register was published in September 2019, and work by the Centre continues with further review of residential school records to find and add missing student names to the memorial, ensuring each child is remembered, honoured and acknowledged.
